Privacy policy

Coupe & Cube is a publication, not a service. There are no accounts, no logins, no shopping cart and no newsletter. That removes most of the reasons a website collects personal data.

• Analytics. Aggregate, anonymized traffic measurement so we know which pages people read.
• The contact form. Only what you type into it, used only to reply to you.
• Affiliate links. When you click through to a retailer, that retailer knows you came from here.

That is the whole list. We do not sell data, we do not run advertising networks, and we do not build profiles of readers.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. It records things like the pages visited, approximate location derived from IP, device type and referring site, and it does so in aggregate.

We use this for one purpose: deciding what to write next. We do not use it to identify individuals, and we do not combine it with any other data set.

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser. You can block them with your browser's settings, with an extension, or with Google's own opt-out browser add-on. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Google processes this data on its own terms. Google's privacy policy governs what it does with it, and it is worth reading if this matters to you.

Buy links on this site route through an address on this domain and then redirect to the retailer - normally Amazon. The redirect carries a tag identifying this site as the referrer, which is how commission is attributed.

The retailer then handles your visit under its own privacy policy, and typically sets its own cookies to remember that you arrived from here. We do not receive your name, your address, your payment details, or a record of what you bought. We receive aggregate commission reporting only.

We also record, through analytics, that a buy link was clicked and which product it was for. That is used to understand which recommendations are useful and is not tied to an identifiable person. The commercial arrangement itself is described on affiliate disclosure.

The contact form collects your name, your email address, an optional subject and your message. It is delivered to us by email through Microsoft Graph and used solely to reply to you.

The form also records the moment the page loaded and includes a hidden field that real people never fill in. Both are anti-spam measures and neither is used to identify you. Submissions are rate-limited by IP address in server memory, which is not stored persistently.

We do not add you to a mailing list - there is not one. We keep correspondence only as long as it is useful for answering you and for tracking corrections, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

Blocking any of these leaves the site fully functional. Nothing here is gated behind accepting anything.

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to its processing. Given what this site collects, that will usually mean correspondence from the contact form.

To make a request, email contact@coupeandcube.com. We will respond within a reasonable period, and we will not ask for anything more than we need to identify the relevant correspondence.

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it. We will not quietly broaden what we collect - if that ever happened, it would appear here first.
